Title AT LEAST 22 DEAD As TERRORIST DISASTER ROCKS.
Scope and content The State of Israel was in shock after a terrorist bomb aboard a public bus on Dizengoff Street - one of Tel Aviv's busiest shopping areas - exploded at 08.50, October 19 1994, destroying the bus and taking at least 12 lives. On a day when Israel was supposed to be celebrating the previous day's announcement that a full peace treaty with Jordan was to be signed, the terrorist outrage rocked the Israeli people. In the evening after the attack demonstrations were held across the country - against Prime Minister Rabin and his peace policies and against freedom of movement for Palestinians in Israel. Rabin cut short his visit to Britain to return to the city struggling to come to terms with what had happened and promised that the Government would do all in its power to limit the threat posed by Hamas and Islamic extremists. PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat also pledged his full support in the fight against terror. Photo shows Israel President Ezer Weizman visiting the injured at Ichilov hospital in Tel Aviv.
