Saul Friedländer Archive

Saul Friedländer (born in Prague 1932), influential Israeli-American historian in the fields of Holocaust studies and Nazi Germany and its persecution of the Jews. The archive is comprised of manuscripts, drafts, correspondence and notes, and is arranged in four series: 1. Correspondence regarding academic and administrative matters, including some files related to personal and familial matters; Correspondence regarding the publication of non-fiction books; Digital files (drafts and correspondence) that were on Friedländer's personal computer; And correspondence, reports, and related material to the Independent Historical Commission that examined the conduct of Bertelsmann publishing house during the Third Reich.

Biographical summary Saul Friedländer (born in Prague 1932), influential Israeli-American historian, specialized in Holocaust studies. During the Holocaust he was hidden in a catholic school in France. Immigration to Israel in 1948, academic studies in France and in Switzerland. Since 1967 professor at the Hebrew University, since 1983 also at the University of California, Los Angeles. Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Ownership history The archive was permanently deposited in the National Library by Saul Friedländer in October 2016.
