Alfred Montefiore Hyamson Collection

Enlarge text Shrink text

The collection comprises twenty-one exercise books containing the handwritten manuscript of the first edition of Alfred Hyamson's book "History of the Jews in England". There are some loose sheets of typed pages, which are later versions of some of the chapters and they have some handwritten corrections on them. Among the pages of some of the exercise books are library slips Hyamson used to order books to his seat in the reading room of the British Museum. In the first pages of the first notebook the text has been edited in another handwriting in red. This corrected version is what appears in the printed volume of the book. There are a few newspaper cuttings amongst the exercise books including one from the Jewish Chronicle dated 1901.
