Biographical summary |
Louis Saalschütz was born at Königsberg, Prussia, in 1835. His father was the archeologist and historian Joseph Levin Saalschütz. From 1854 to 1860 he studied mathematics and physics at the university of Koenigsberg. From 1861 to 1882 he was teacher of mathematics, mechanics, and engineering at the Royal School of Mechanics, Königsberg. In 1875 he became assistant professor and in 1888 was promoted to be professor of mathematics at the Koenigsberg University. For a number of years he has filled the office of president of the Jewish orphan asylum of Königsberg. Louis Saalschütz died in 1913 in Königsberg. |

The collection was permanently deposited at the National Library by the Jewish Community of Berlin, in December 1934. |
