Description
The collection includes 25 letters and postcards in French, sent to Miriam Freund-Rosenthal by Marc Chagall's wife, Valentina (Vava) Brodsky-Chagall (1905-1993) invitations to opening ceremonies of Chagall's exhibitions and various events in honor of Marc Chagall two b/w photographs of Marc Chagall with Miriam Freund-Rosenthal (one of them was taken in Itzhak Ben Zvi Israel's President official residence and the other one in Chagall's studio in Vence, France, at the time he was working on the "Jerusalem Windows" project) typed program of Marc Chagall's visit in Israel, with handwritten corrections by M. Rosenthal Four cards signed by the artist Lizette Simon.

Biographical summary Dr. Miriam Freund-Rosenthal (Miriam K. Freund) was national president of Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, from 1956 until 1960. She was born in 1906 in New York City. In 1936 she earned her PhD from New York University. Dr. Freund-Rosenthal persuaded the artist Marc Chagall to create the stained glass windows for a the Hadassah Hospital synagogue in Ein Karem, Jerusalem. Freund-Rosenthal endowed Hadassah educational seminars in the United States and Israel and was active in various Zionist organizations in the U.S. Miriam Freund-Rosenthal died in January 1999 at her home in Miami Beach.
Ownership history This collection was permanently deposited in the National Library of Israel in 1988 by Dr. Miriam Freund Rosenthal herself.
