Biographical summary Claudio G. Segrè was a professor of modern European history at the University of Texas at Austin. Segre was well known as a specialist in the history of Italian fascism. He was born in to a Jewish family in Palermo, Italy, in 1937 and immigrated with his parents to the United States in 1938. His father was Emilio G. Segrè, 1959 Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics. Segrè graduated from Reed College and received a master's degree in English from Stanford University and a doctorate in history from the University of California. From 1991 to 1993, he was a professor in the Aeronautics Department at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington. He was also a Fulbright Fellow and won fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Humanities Center. Segrè was the author of many essays and articles for newspapers in the United States, Britain, Israel and Italy. He also wrote humor pieces and short stories. Claudio G. Segrè died in 1995 in Berkeley, California at the age of 58.
