Biographical summary Jonathan Frankel (London, UK 1935 - Jerusalem 2008) was a prominent Israeli historian and Professor of Russian and Slavic Studies and Jewish History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He completed his PhD in 1961 in Jesus College, Cambridge, and moved to Israel in 1964 for teaching in the Hebrew University, where he stayed until his retirement. He was a recipient of the Zalman Shazar Award for Research in Jewish History.
