Notes The collection was composed by donations of his widow, his daughter, and of an anonymus collector. Some additional letters from Fliess to different persons are stored in the Schwadron collection. Letters from Hermann Schapira to Wilhelm Fliess are kept in file Schwad 01 21 331, items 14a-h.

Biographical summary Wilhelm Fliess (Arnswalde 1858 - Berlin 1928) was a famous physician, close friend of Sigmund Freud. He was president of the "Deutsche Akademie der Wissenschaften".
Ownership history The letters to his mother were permanently deposited in the National Library by his late widow (formerly V. 2183), other parts were donated by his daughter, Pauline Jacobson, in 1977. Another part, was permanently deposited in the National Library by an anonymous donor in 1943.
Language Note The material is mainly in German, few letters are in English.
