Biographical summary מזרחן. נולד בקלן, גרמניה. עלה ארצה ב 1934. עבד במחלקה המדינית של הסוכנות היהודית בארץ ובלונדון (1943-1948), שימש בשירות הדיפלומטי בוושינגטון ובאנקרה (1948-1950). מ- 1951 מרצה למדעי המזרח באוניברסיטה העברית. התמחה בחקר ההיסטוריה והתרבות של האימפריה העותמאנית ותורכיה המודרנית. בין פרסומיו הנוגעים לארץ ישראל: דאהר אל עמר - שליט הגליל במאה הי"ח ותעודות עותמאניות על אודות ארץ ישראל.
