Biographical summary |
Shmuel Gorr (Melbourne 1931 - Jerusalem 1988) Collector and researcher of genealogical material. He studied at the Telshe Yeshiva in Cleveland, Ohaio, and furthered his studies at at Gateshead Yeshiva in England. In 1968 Rabbi Gorr made Aliya to Israel. Gorr worked initially for Encyclopedia Judaica, contributing articles on Rabbis and communities. He also worked at Yad Vashem and the manuscripts department of the National Library in Jerusalem. Gorr's innate fascination with genalogy soon became his profession, and he spent the last twenty years of his life in unraveling the comlex family relationships of tens of thousends of Jews throughout the countries. |
