Biographical summary Yehoshua Arieli (Karlovy Vary 1916-Jerusalem 2002) was professor at Hebrew University and founder of American studies in Israel. He immigrated with his family in 1931, studied at Hebrew University 1937-40, served in the British Army 1941-45 and in Israel's War of Independence. Arieli was awarded the Israel Prize in 1993. He was an internationally important scholar of American history & American studies. From the end of the Six Days War he was active in the Israel peace movement.
