Description
The archive contains Prof. Amiran's expedition notebooks, lecture notes, research data, articles, academic material, photo album. It also includes 5 of Ruth Amiran's professional notebooks. The letters and numbers in brackets at the end of most items are the identifying marks written on the outside of the original notebooks by Prof. Amiran.

Level of Description Fonds Record
Biographical summary Prof. David Amiran was born in Berlin in 1910 and immigrated to Palestine in 1935. He was librarian of the geological department of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and began teaching geography there in 1949. He was appointed full professor of geography in 1963. From 1956-1959 Amiran was director of the Research Council of Israel and of the Negev Institute of Arid Zone Research. Between 1962 and 1968 he was acting chairman of the International Geographical Unions Commission on the Arid Zone and in 1968 he became a member of the Union's Commission on Man and Environment.
