The file contains:;a) an autograph letter of four pages written in Teddington near Hampton Court on 18 July 1743 to Henri Louis Duhamel du Monceau in Paris concerning a treatise by Duhamel on fractured bones and Hales' own publiction on ventilators. In addition, there is a contemporary French translation of the letter.;b) an autograph letter of two pages written in Dukes Court on 4 May 1752 to David Bonell jun. concerning the translation of Hales' books into Italian.

Stephen Hales (1677-1761), English clergyman who made major contributions to a range of scientific fields including botany, pneumatic chemistry and physiology. He was the first person to measure blood pressure.
