Maret, Paris, 29 Frimaire, an 9 [20.12.1800], to [admiral] Vence, in Toulon, sending him two documents (a formal complaint and minute of proceedings: not included here); asking him to inquire immediately on the opening of parcels of mail addressed to the Premier Consul [Bonaparte], presumably as a precaution to prevent spread of plague, and asking for a prompt report on the securities which were taken to ensure that mail was not read before reaching the addressee.;[Hugues-Bernard Maret, duc de Bassano, 1763-1839]
