Amida Raigō is a very well known theme in Japanese Pure Land Buddhism. It depicts the Buddha Amida (in the center)with his two attendants, Kannon (Sanskrit: Avalokiteśvara) on the right and Seishi (Sanskrit: Mahāsthāmaprāpta) on the left, as they descend to greet the soul of the dead and escort them to the pure land. These type of paintings were often hang near the beds of the dying in hope to aid their passing to the next world.
