Notes This document was drafted in the “Aula Magna” (the Great Hall) of the Episcopal Palace of Pavia for Antonio Francesco Balosto, student of the Collegio Ghislieri in Pavia. The degree was granted on 18 November 1673 around “hora Tertiarum” (corresponding to 8 to 9 a.m.). It was realized in the intellectual background of jurists linked to the still existing Collegio, many of whose names are on these pages.
Most of the diploma was written following word by word a centuries-old standard, only varied by the dates, names and subject inserted in it, and it was used by the University of Pavia (the “Studium Generale”) for juridical and medical degrees
some similar documents have been published years before in specialized Italian periodicals and books.
In the text appears the date 13 November 1564 when Pope Pius IV (1499-1565) issued the bull In Sacrosanta, in which he ordered that all candidates in the Catholic universities must declare on oath their orthodox faith before graduation, in accordance with the rules of the Council of Trent. The Balosto statement was transcribed in a separate document not attached to this.
In the last page the text breaks off in the middle of a sentence
