בראשו: "שבעה חקירות אשר חקר החוקר מעיר בולונייא אל כמוהר"ר ישמעאל חנינא נר"ו בכמוהר"ר מרדכי הרופא זלה"ה ושם החוקר מנואלו מונטונו י"ש בחדש נובימרו שנת שכ"ח והיה עצמו בחצר המטרה בחקירה בבית האיסורים. והוא השיב תשובה נצחת לכל אחת ואחת להורות אמיתות תורתנו הנצחית ... והוא היה רבו של הרמ"ע מפאנו זצוק"ל". אירוע זה קשור לגזירותיו של האפיפיור פיוס החמישי קודם לגרוש יהודי מדינת הכנסיה בשנת שכ"ט. ראה: ד' קארפי, גירוש היהודים ממדינת הכנסיה בימי האפיפיור פיוס החמישי ..., ספר זכרון לחיים אנצו סיריני, ירושלים תשל"א, ע' 145-165, ושם עמ' 148 נזכר אירוע זה. At the head: "Seven interrogations in which the interrogator from Bologna racked Rabbi Ishma'el Hanina ben Mordekhay ha-Rofe, and the name of the interrogator was Manuelo of Valmontano may his name be blotted out, in the month of November in the year שכ"ח [in 1567/8]". "He provided a decisive answer in each and every one of them, asserting the truths of our eternal Torah […] and he was the grandfather of Menahem Azaryah da Fano". This affair is connected with Pope Pius V's restrictions against the Jews, which preceded the expulsion of the Jews from papal states in the year שכ"ט (in 1568/9). See D.
