About the album
  • The Place Jaffa. The Time The Present - Early one morning, returning late from night-club, Kazablan (Yehoram Gaon) and his gang, the Brillian tines awaken the neighbors of the old Arab house in Jaffa where Kazablan lives. Aroused and annoyed, Kazablan's neighbors accuse him of having no honor or SELF RESPECT The tenants of the house are new immigrants to Israel coming from varied backgrounds Europe, North Africa, the Yemen... Though little love is lost amongst them, they agree that despite their differences, WE ARE ALL JEWS. Kazablan, originally from Morocco, frequently clashes with Yanosh (Shlomo Bar-Shavit) an immigrant shoemaker from Hungary. They are both in love with Rachel (Ady Etzion), daughter of another neighbor, Feldman (Michael Messinger) who tries to prevent Kazablen from courting Rachel. Feldman, from Poland, thinks that e friendship between people of "Kazablan's background and his daughter is "unsuitable". One day Rachel brings her shoes to be repaired to Yanosh who begs her to let him take her out of this awful neighborhood with the help of a pair of MAGIC SLIPPERS Heels he will make for her. A Municipal Inspector arrives on the scene announcing that as the house has been found to be in a dilapidated state and on the verge of collapse, he has eviction orders for the tenants. Indignant and tired of being moved from place to place the tenants call a meeting A Committee is duly elected (DEMOCRATIA - Democratia) and each family donates some money towards fund needed to buy the materials to repair the house. The "Brilliantines up to their old tricks, are mean while busy filching car parts. (ANYTHING HAPPEN - Ma Kara). Kezablan's courting of Rachel, during which he tells her about his place of birth, Morocco (THERE'S A PLACE – Yesh makom) is vigorously objected to by her father. Hurt by Feldman's attitude towards him, Kazeblan goes carousing to a night spot run by Charlute (Dahlia Oren) who revels in Jaffa! – Yafo! That night, the money raised from the meager savings of the neighbors, disappears from Feldman's flat and suspicion falls on Kazablan. He is questioned at Police Headquarters where he meets and of his former Army Officers Josh (David Ram), now serving in the Police Force. There is no proof against him and Kazablan goes home There he hears the women and their GOSSIP – Rechilut. When he realizes that the neighbors are convinced that it is he who has stolen the money, he has an argument with Rachel, (I'M SO PRIGHTENED - Anee Kol Kack Poched), and decides to find the real culprit. The Municipal Inspector arrives at the Jaffa Flee Market again where he is boisterously greeted by the Brillian-tines (IMUNICIPALITY – Ha'eerya). Kazablan discovers and revests to the Police that it Yanosh who has stolen the money. But, after he meets Josh again and hurls his accumulated bitterness and frustration at him, Kazablan is overwhelmed by the emptiness of his recant way of living and pours out his hears in GET OFF MY BACK, KAZABLAN – Tered mimenee Kazablan. Kazablan now becomes the leader in the struggle to save the house. On the night before they are to be evicted, the tenants, under Kazablan's leadership, repair the house themselves. With the house restored and in good state, the eviction orders cannot be carried out and happiness reigns. To add to the joy, grandson has been born to Moshika (Arie Elias) and Meryuma (Esther Greenberg) whose love and dreams for the child are expressed in their friendship and joint happiness comes to full expression during the circumcision ceremony celebration (BRIT MILA PAGEANT) To Kazablan goes the honor of being Godfather to the infant upon whom is bestowed the name of – Kazablan.
