  • השיר הולחן עבור פסטיבל הזמר החסידי השמיני (1976) וזכה במקום השני. הפיוט זכה גם ללחנים ישראליים בני זמננו וזה של עוזי חיטמן הוא כנראה הידוע שבהם.
    "אדון עולם" הוא מבין הפיוטים הידועים ביותר והוא מופיע בסידורים של רוב קהילות ישראל בטרם תפילת שחרית. המשקל הערבי מחזק את ההשערה ששיר זה חובר בימי הביניים, וסביר שנכתב בספרד או באיטליה. המחבר אינו ידוע, וחלק מהאחרונים ייחסוהו לרב שרירא גאון, לרב האי גאון, או לרב שלמה אבן גבירול. עם זאת, הפיוט נמצא לראשונה בסידור בן המאה ה־13, ועל־כן המחקר דחה השערות אלו.

    כך כתב רבי משה מאט בספר "מטה משה" על מעלתו של הפיוט: "כל מי שמכוון בעת התחלת 'אדון עולם' ערב אני בדבר שתפלתו נשמעת, ואין שטן מקטרג על תפלתו, ואין לו שטן ופגע רע בראש השנה ויום הכיפורים בתפלתו, ואויביו נופלים לפניו, ויש אומרים אף יצר הרע משלים איתו".
