Production period - beginning of the 20th century;founders, architects, painters etc. - Pilichowski, Leopold;Front Period - beginning of the 20th century;Category - Religious life;Description - The rectangular, horizontal postcard presents an illustration of the custom of Netilat Lulav [Arba'at HaMinim] (The waiving of the Four Spices), which takes place during the morning services of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. The first source of this ceremony is found in the Bible (Leviticus 23, 40), and over the generations different symbolic meanings where given to it. The scene takes place inside a wooden synagogue, full of Jewish East-European looking men. Each one of them is wearing the Kippah (a Yarmulka, a thin cloth skullcap, usually worn by Jewish observant men);&;Stamp Place on postcard - top right corner of back;Stamp Origin - Transavaal (State);Stamp Description - Portrait of King Edward VII (1901-1910).;Post office marks Origin - Johannesburg (City)
