The head of the family raises his hand to invite them to enter and join them. The scene illustrate the custom of hospitality. Two verses in Hebrew and German are written bellow and reinforce the meaning of the scene: 'Thou hast been the helper of the fatherless' [Psalms 10:14] and 'He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor' [Proverbs 22:9, written in Hebrew with slight change than in Proverbs].
