Photograph is printed in a book with a title beneath in Hebrew and German page number (51) at the bottom of the page. Quality: Good Verso: Printed description (in German and Hebrew) : "Sichem (Nablus). Nördlich von Jerusalem, in einem quellenreichen Thale, zwischen Garizim im Süden und dem Ebal im Norden, liegt die Stadt Sichem. Sie zählt etwa 20,000 Einwohner, von denen die meisten Mohamedaner sind, wahrend Juden und Christen infolge des Fanatismus und der Unduldsamkeit der Ersteren dort nur wenig vertreten sind. In Sichem wird lebhafter Handel mit Seife getrieben, die in 26 Siedereien hucitet wird. Ein lebendes aber klägliches Monument aus alten Zeiten sind die Samaritaner in Sichern. Etwa 100 Seelen zählen sie, die abgeschlossen von der Aussenwelt, alle in einer Strasse wohnen, in der sich auch ihr Bethaus, das nur am Sabbath geöffnet wird, befindet. Auch sie sind bei den Mohamedanern unbeliebt. Am 14. des Monats Jiar bringen sie auf einem bestimmten Orte am Berge Garizim ein Osterlamm dar. Einige hundert Schritte von Sichem, am Fusse des Berges Ebal, sieht man Josefs Grab, einen kleinen aber festen Bau, den der englische Konsul zu Damaskus E. F. Rogers im Jahre 1865 errichten liess." |
