PhotographA full-page panel of the Hoshen. It is composed of twelve rectangular compartments in alternating magenta and blue, arranged in four rows, decorated with fine white foliage scrolls and small golden squares in the corners. Within each rectangle, written in burnished gold on the vellum ground, are the names of the Urim and Tumim - the twelve stones of the Hoshen, the names of the twelve tribes, the names of the three Patriarchs and the term Shivtei Yeshurun (tribes of Israel) divided into syllables among the compartments. The Hoshen is surrounded by a double frame. The inner frame, consisting of biblical verses (Ex.28:30,29) alluding to the usage of the Hoshen by Aaron, is written in gold script on a blue ground. Four golden squares decorate the four corners. The outer frame is composed of golden foliage scrolls on an alternating purple and blue ground. In each corner is an armorial device, possibly of the Sanz family, shaped like a stylized blue wing. (Seepreceding cards) (See Roth, Sarajevo)
