Title NEW INSPECTOR-GENERAL TAKES CHARGE.
Scope and content Sunday 1 May 1994 heralded the start of Assad Hefetz's term as Israel's 17th police inspector-general. He replaces outgoing inspector-general Rafi Peled who resigned after the High Court ordered an investigation into whether disciplinary action should be taken against him for receiving hotel discounts and appearing in a promotional photograph in a jacuzzi. The court cleared him of any criminal wrongdoing. Hefetz, in his acceptance address, thanked the prime minister and the police minister "for the trust they are showing in me by appointing me to this post. Photo shows newly appointed Police Inspector-General Assaf Hefetz (centre) at the ceremony marking his term, 1 May 1994, at the Police Ministry Headquarters in Jerusalem. Pinning his new rank on to his uniform are Police Minister Moshe Shahal (right) and Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
