Discusses Holocaust education in Israel, based on interviews with staff members of the education department at Beit Berl College, as well as observation of classes at the college in 1998-99. Topics include the role of the Holocaust in Jewish Israeli identity and culture, Holocaust memory in Israel, the influence of different political views on Holocaust education, and the role of survivor testimony in Holocaust study and teaching. The Holocaust education program at Beit Berl, which trains teachers for primary and intermediate schools, focuses on educational values of the Holocaust rather than its actual history.
