"מי שגדל בישראל בשנות ה-70 זוכר את דודלי ואת רגע, בשנות ה-80 את מערכוני "זהו זה!", בשנות ה?90 את השעשועון "ששטוס" ובראשית שנות האלפיים את דודידו או את "השמיניה".הטלוויזיה לילדים בישראל היא חלק בלתי נפרד מחוויית הילדות של דורות שלמים. עולמות התוכן שהוצגו בה עוצבו בהתאם לתפיסותיהם של יוצרי הטלוויזיה, מבוגרים בעצמם, ובהתאם לאופן שבו ראו את מטרות השידור לילדים. על בסיס מידע היסטורי וראיונות עם יוצרים ויוצרות מתשעה ערוצי ילדים מרכזיים, מחלק המחבר ד"ר יובל גוז'נסקי את 50 שנות הטלוויזיה לילדים בישראל לשלוש תקופות מרכזיות: עידן הערוץ היחיד (1979-1966); עידן הבלעדיות החדשה (2000-1989); עידן התחרות: ריבוי הערוצים והדיגיטל (2016-2000).הספר מתמקד בשינוי תפיסת הילדות בשדה הטלוויזיה לילדים ובמעבר מתפיסה חינוכית-ממלכתית לתפיסה מסחרית-גלובלית, מעבר המבטא שינוי ביחס החברה והתרבות הישראלית לילדיה". -- מהמעטפת האחורית.
