"L'ebraico antico, nel descrivere un individuo, raramente conosce il singolare della parola volto. Di un individuo si parla spesso de "i volti" (Panim), che sono dunque manifestazione di un'identità plurale e collettiva. Di fronte alla manifestazione del silenzio l'uomo in cammino spirituale si copre dunque "i volti", in un commovente gesto di pudore e protezione. Ma "guardando e rimirando" l'armonia di quel gesto, mi sono sempre chiesto se la stessa non potesse anche significare un anelito all'unità, o quanto meno all'armonizzazione dei nostri "esseri". Il silenzio, specie quello biblico, è un richiamo all'elevazione e all'unità, e al contempo il silenzio è la memoria della perdita di quella stessa armonia."-- Back cover.
