"מחקר זה המתפרסם במלאות 100 שנה למלחמת העולם הראשונה נועד למלא את חלל שהיה עד כה ברישום תולדות התעופה בשמי הארץ ולתאר את הפעילות האוירית הענפה שהתחוללה בזירה בשנים אלה, מראשית אוגוסט 1914 ועד כניעת תורכיה בנובמבר 1918. התיאור עוקב ברציפות אחר הפעילות האוירית, מכיבוש סיני על ידי הבריטים ועד לניצחון הגדול על כוחות תורכיה וגרמניה בסוף 1918. המחקר מבוסס על מקורות רבים, בהם פרסומים רשמיים של חילות האויר של בריטניה, אוסטרליה, תורכיה וגרמניה. לבד מן העובדות והמספרים, משולבים במחקר גם זכרונותיהם של מפקדים, טייסים וסיירים אשר השתתפו במלחמה בשמי ארץ ישראל"--מן המעטפת האחורית.
