"ברצוני לצרף אותך לגוף שנקרא 'מצדה'." כך נפתח הפרק בחייו של אלכסנדר סלע אשר הפגיש אותו עם ה"מוסד". אלכסנדר נשא "גֶן" אשר נצרב עמוקות בנפשו - לזכור ולא לשכוח. כבן לניצולי שואה אשר זכה לשרת ב"מוסד", היה נציגם של ניצולי שואה רבים, ובהם הוריו, אשר חיו באזור הדמדומים והצלקות שבנפשם לא הגלידו אף פעם. במעשיו ובפעילותו למען ביטחון ישראל הן כאיש "מוסד" הן כאיש צבא, פעל אלכסנדר למען ביצור בטחונה של המדינה תוך שהוא מקיים צוואה בלתי כתובה של ניצולי השואה - לי נקם ושִלם. בספר זה מוצג סיפורו המרתק, החל בילדותו בליטא, דרך נְעוריו בארץ, וכלה כבוגר החובש שני כובעים במקביל: איש "מוסד" ואיש צבא. הקורא מתוודע לדמות אנושית חפה מגינונים ומיומרות, המעורבת בשלל מבצעים מרתקים, ובחלקם אף מסמרי שיער, החל בניסיון לחסל את יוזף מֶנגלה, מאבק בטרור הפלסטיני, חיסול פושעי מלחמה נאצים, וכלה בהברחת טיל בליסטי רוסי לישראל, אשר תרם במידה משמעותית לפיתוח פרוייקט "החץ". -- מן המעטפת האחורית.
