"הרשעה של חפים מפשע היא עוול נוראי הנעשה לאותם אנשים שהורשעו בדין על אף חפותם. מעבר לעוול זה יש לכך גם השלכות חמורות על פעילותה של מערכת אכיפת החוק, מאחר שהאשמים האמיתיים מתחמקים מעונש, והאמון שנותן הציבור בהחלטותיה ובדרך פעולתה של מערכת אכיפת החוק הולך ונסדק. פרסומם של מקרים שונים שמתוכם עולה כי הורשעו אנשים חפים מפשע מעלה שאלות רחבות העוסקות במכלול האיזונים, הבקרות והמנגנונים המשפטיים והארגוניים הקיימים במערכת אכיפת החוק ואשר מתפקידם למנוע הישנות מקרים מעין אלה. בספר שלפנינו נבחנים ההיבטים השונים המלווים את פועלה של מערכת אכיפת החוק בדרכה לתוצאה הבלתי רצויה של הרשעות שווא. הספר מחולק לשלושה חלקים מרכזיים: הראשון עוסק בהיבטים ארגוניים ופורנזיים בחקר האמת המשפטית, השני בהיבטים פסיכולוגיים בעבודתם של אוכפי החוק, והשלישי מציג היבטים יישומיים בחקירת האמת" -- מן הכריכה האחורית.
