"מני פלג, אלמן טרי בן שישים, סוגר להפתעת ילדיו את העסק ויוצא לטיול תרמילאים בדרום אמריקה. כעבור כמה חודשים בדרכים הוא נעלם בנסיבות לא ברורות, ובנו דורי נאלץ לצאת למסע חיפושים בעקבותיו. בקצה אחר של הגלובוס, ענבר, מפיקת רדיו צעירה, שוהה בביקור קצר אצל אמה בברלין. רגע לפני שהיא עולה על הטיסה בחזרה לישראל ניצת בה רעיון: לא לחזור ארצה אל העבודה שלה ואל בן הזוג שלה, ולעלות על טיסה אחרת לגמרי. מכאן לכאן, באוויר, בים וביבשה, ובעיקר בקרוון אחד קסום, עושים גיבורי נוילנד את דרכם אל נקודת הרתיחה של הרומן, אל מקום מסקרן ומלהיב בהיסטוריה החלופית של ישראל, שממנו יחזרו שונים. שכול נבו שב ומפליא בבריאת דמויות המדברות אל לב הקורא כמו חברים ותיקים. הפעם הוא צולל אל תהומות הרגש של שתי משפחות ומאיר שם את מעמקיהן ואת היחסים המורכבים של ישראלים ויהודים עם אופציית הנדודים. נוילנד הוא רומן סוחף ונועז שכל גיבוריו נמצאים בתנועה, ולכולם המסע מזמן אפשרות נדירה להציץ, ולוּ לרגע, אל חיים אחרים: החיים שהיו יכולים להיות שלהם." -- מעטפת אחורית
