This book calls us to rethink the story of Pharaoh, the Exodus, and the wilderness to learn from it ways we can address our modern-day enslavements that echo the ancient ones--corporate greed; making "strangers" into pariahs; the climate crisis and other ecological disasters like the ancient "plagues." By examining the archetypal tale of the Hebrews' liberation from Egypt and the various ways the story has been retold throughout history, we gain new perspectives on the destructive effects of top-down, unaccountable power; the importance of replacing it with new forms of community; and the role of action in the quest for freedom.
