The AfD's Attitude towards National Socialism, the Holocaust and Antisemitism : a facebook analysis / By Monika Hübscher.
Monika Hübscher author
Scholarly ArticleAt first glance, one may think that socialism, advocating equality, justice, freedom, and progress, cannot be antisemitic. Nonetheless, there exists a long antisemitic tradition in socialism. Traces this tradition in socialist thought and movements in France, Germany, England and other countries in the 19th century. Many (although not all) socialists identified capitalism with Jews and refused to see that there were Jewish workers. Most socialists never considered the "Jewish problem" as a central issue of social questions; there was no specific "antisemitic socialism". However, antisemitism was a corrupting factor in the socialist movement and prevented a clear analysis of capitalism; moreover, it strengthened antisemitism in general.
