Enlarge text Shrink text

A history of the Süss family from Slovakia, Pp. 36-49 relate the fate of family members in the Holocaust. Jehuda Süss, who was born in Trenčin in 1924, discusses the implementation of Nazi anti-Jewish laws there. Süss's father received a permit to enter Palestine, but the Nazi invasion of Hungary barred the family from leaving Slovakia. Most of the town's Jews were deported, but the family hid, and Jehuda joined the partisans. He was arrested and sent to Sered, then to Theresienstadt, where he was liberated two months later. His parents died soon after the liberation, but his sister survived. Pp. 50-57 contain four lists of names which relate to Jehuda's mother's illness and to her death in the Auschwitz hospital, as well as photographs of family gravestones that include inscriptions of names of relatives who were killed in the Holocaust.
