יהושע ברנדשטטר היה איש אהבות. אהבה לארץ-ישראל, לנופיה ולצבעיה; אהבה עזה לאנשים, למפגש החד-פעמי בין אדם לאדם; אהבת הריגוש, החידוש, השינוי, התנועה. תאוות חיים גדולה: אהבת מסעות, המצאות, יזמות חדשות, מגעים אנושיים, אי שקט ויצירתיות. איש של הפכים: אוהב סדר ופורץ גדר, חקלאי וצייר, אמן ואיש תעשייה, הרפתקן ממוסד, אינדיבידואליסט המאמין ביחד, ארץ-ישראלי ואזרח העולם הגדול, חולם ממושמע, רומנטיקן ואיש מעשה. ; יהושע ברנדשטטר היה שותף בשורה של התרחשויות חשובות בתחום החברה והתרבות של ארץ-ישראל במחצית הראשונה של המאה העשרים: חבר 'השומר'; מראשוני המומחים החקלאיים בארץ בענף הרפת; איש בית אלפא, קיבוץ א' של ה'שומר הצעיר', בשנותיה הראשונות ; המנהל הראשון (יחד עם מרגוט קלאוזנר) של תאטרון 'הבימה' בארץ-ישראל; המנהל הראשון של המחלקה הכלכלית של הקיבוץ הארצי; מחלוצי ענף הקולנוע ומייסד שותף (עם מרגוט קלאוזנר) של אולפני הסרטה 'הרצליה', האולפנים המקצועיים הראשונים בארץ; ובשנים האחרונות לחייו - צייר, שזכה להכרה כצייר ארץ-ישראלי מקורי של 'אמנות נאיבית'.
