Pp. 19-35 contain memoirs of Schlesinger-Levkovitz (1928-2000), born in Vinkovci, Croatia, based on interviews with her son in 1993. Describes the German occupation, after which she and her parents were forced to leave their home. Her older sister, who lived in Belgrade, was killed, as her parents were later. Schlesinger-Levkovitz was rescued by a Jewish organization and sent to live with families, first in Osijek and then in Split. In spring 1943 she was sent by the DELASEM organization to Italy, where she lived at Villa Emma in the village of Nonantola, with ca. 120 other Jewish children. After the German invasion of Italy, the children were taken to Switzerland; after the war they left for Eretz Israel. Pp. 39-70 contain a diary written by Schlesinger-Levkovitz during her stay at Villa Emma from April 1943-January 1944. (From the Bibliography of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism - The Hebrew University of Jerusalem)
