An illustrated history of the Jewish people in the 20th century, both in the Land of Israel and in the Diaspora. Discusses the rise of antisemitism in the early 20th century, including pogroms in Russia in 1903-06 and 1918-20; the rise of Nazism in Germany in the 1930s and antisemitism there and in other countries, and the worsening of the Jews' situation in Central Europe in 1938-39. Dwells on the "Anschluss" and the German occupation of Czech lands and their impact on the Jews, as well as the "Kristallnacht" pogrom and the problems of Jewish refugees worldwide. Ch. 5 (pp. 196-237), "The Second World War: 1939-1945", deals, inter alia, with the Holocaust. Dwells on the ghettoization of Jews in Poland and other countries, the genocide of Jews in death camps and elsewhere, and attempts at Jewish resistance to Nazism.
