שישה בני נוער, ועוד נערה, נשלחים, בניגוד לרצונם, ללימודים בבית-ספר קיץ, הרחק בצפון הארץ. בעיצומה של חופשת הקיץ הם נאלצים ללמוד, להידחס בחדרי מגורים עם נערים, ונערות זרים ולחיות זה עם זה במשך חודש שלם.הם מגיעים ממקומות שונים, מרקעים שונים, כל אחד עם הסיפור שלו, עם העולם שלו, ואינם מצפים לדבר מלבד שעמום וסבל. הם אינם יודעים שזה יהיה חודש שישנה את חייהם, לפחות בטווח הקרוב. הם אינם מעלים על דעתם שייווצרו ביניהם קשרי ידידות כה חזקים, עד כי הפרידה תיראה להם קשה מנשוא. הם לא חולמים שייזכו לעבוד בעיתון מפורסם; שימצאו אהבה; שיגלו דברים חדשים על עצמם; שהחודש הזה יהיה אחת התקופות המהנות ביותר בחייהם. כל אחד מהם נאלץ להתמודד עם קשיים ומכשולים שונים, אך בזכות החברות והעזרה ההדדית בקבוצה הם מצליחים להתגבר ולהגיע יחד למטרות שנקבעו לעצמם. סיפור התבגרות מרתק מלא התרחשויות, סערות נפש ותובנה.
