Chronicles the history of the Jews of the Vaud region of Switzerland, based on the minutes of the general meetings of the Lausanne Jewish community. Traces their evolving status from that of stateless residents to equality from 1798. Pp. 34-49 and 83-100 examine the dilemma of Swiss Jews in World War II, as citizens of a neutral country who attempted, often in vain, to intervene with their government, following the enactment of stricter immigration policies. Emphasizes their efforts to aid their fellow Jews during the Holocaust period. Assesses the influence of La Délivrance, an organization and journal founded in 1936 by Nahum Bonstein, to aid Jewish refugees. Pp. 102-121 list the names of Jews granted asylum in Lausanne from 1933-46.
