Pp. 479-552 discuss repressive measures motivated by antisemitism, from the Civil War (1918-20) until the post-Soviet period. The Red Army, along with other armies in the Civil War, perpetrated pogroms against Jews. Covert antisemitism was a factor in Soviet policy toward the Jews in the 1920s-30s. It became a motive for repressive measures during and after World War II, when it became clear that it was easier to mobilize the people against a national enemy than against a class enemy. Dwells on the affairs of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee and the "Doctors' Plot". From the late 1980s, antisemitic repressive measures have been enforced through Russian extreme nationalist organizations. Discusses violent acts perpetrated by nationalists against Jews and other "national enemies". Some of the perpetrators were brought to trial; almost all of these ended with acquittal of the defendants or symbolic punishments. The authorities secretly favor the racist propaganda and extreme nationalism, and the fascists enjoy impunity.
