The Red Army, along with other armies in the Civil War, perpetrated pogroms against Jews. Covert antisemitism was a factor in Soviet policy toward the Jews in the 1920s-30s. It became a motive for repressive measures during and after World War II, when it became clear that it was easier to mobilize the people against a national enemy than against a class enemy. From the late 1980s, antisemitic repressive measures have been enforced through Russian extreme nationalist organizations.
