Medres (1894-1964), a Canadian Jewish journalist and staff writer for the "Keneder Adler", describes Jewish life in eastern Canada, focusing on life in Montreal in the 1920s-50s. In the interwar period, militant antisemitism, represented by the pro-Nazi National Christian Social Party of Adrien Arcand and by some other agitators, was on the rise in Quebec. Anti-Jewish incidents occurred in Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa, and elsewhere. Relates the struggle against antisemites conducted by Canadian Jews, in which they enjoyed the support of many prominent French Canadians. Describes, also, reactions of Canadian Jewry to the rise of Nazi antisemitism in Germany.
