La dispute de Barcelone, suivi du commentaire sur Esaie 52-53

Enlarge text Shrink text

The disputation of Barcelona took place in 1263 between R. Moses ben Nachman and the apostate Pablo Christiani. The circumstances of the disputation, and the new militancy and hostility towards Judaism on the part of the Church, are described in the introduction to this translation (pp. 1-20). The disputation focuses on the issue of whether Jesus was the Messiah. Includes translations of several Christian Latin texts describing the disputation, and orders by the King of Aragon relating to the disputation and to the destruction of the Talmud.
