OK was born on June 7, 1932 in Debrecen, Hungary. OK has a twin brother and an older sister. On March 17, 1944 the Nazis conquered Hungary. OK's father was imprisoned and then deported to Auschwitz. Soon after, the Hungarians forced all Jews into the ghetto. OK, his mother and his siblings were transported to Auschwitz on June 27, 1944. Upon arrival, OK and his twin were taken to a special camp clinic in Birkenau. OK's mother was gassed at the first selection. His father survived until liberation, but then died of typhus. In Birkenau, the boys were cared for by Mr Spiegel, the oldest male twin in the camp. OK does not detail information about experiments. His brother suffers from severe kidney disease due to experiments performed at the camp. Auschwitz was liberated on January 27. The twins crossed into Poland, on foot and by car, during a six week jouney to Hungary. They reunited with three uncles and settled in their own house. OK recuperated in a sanatorium in Switzerland from 1945-53. He later continued his education in Geneva, Switzerland. He married at 42 years old.
