The Hagana; the Palmach; recruiting for the British Army; activities in Italy; "illegal" immigration from Italy. Subjects recalls that the pressure to join the British Army brought about recruitment of some who were less disciplined in a national sense. He and a friend were sent to purge units and exploit them more efficiently. Initially in Damascus, where local Jewry was organized prior to its smuggling to Palestine. After this unit was disbanded, he joined a transport unit in Egypt in 1941. Command of this unit was in the hands of the Haganah and weapons training were given by Eliahu Cohen. Subject spent two years in the desert. Libyan Jewry encountered and affected by the military units, which gave courses and taught Hebrew. Interview ends with description of invasion of Italy.
