Pogroms of 1945; effect on Amrus Jewish community. Relocation of family to Tripoli. Distribution of food by American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. Preparations for immigration to Israel. Immigration problematic for the sick; medical examinations and care. Immigration to Israel, 1949. Arrival on board ship Herzl. Blind father immigrating only six months later upon payment of special fee. Nine months' stay in Binyamina transitional camp. Relocation to Moshav Yaziz. No knowledge of Hebrew. Project of teaching Hebrew to newcomers in their homes. Problems of second generation.
