Reminiscences of one of the children of the orphanage who were transferred from Dienslaken to Belgium; his life in Belgium; joining the underground after the German occupation of Belgium; joining the Free Dutch Forces at the end of the war. Born in 1925 in Goch, Germany. Put in Dr. Rothschild's institute after father's death. Institute demolished at Kristallnacht, 1938. His mother taking her son out of Germany to Belgium. Absorbed in pioneer training center in Heide where he stayed until occupation of Belgium by the Germans. Attempting to escape to England but returned to Belgium. Joining group of agricultural training in Bomal. Local farmer offering him to join the underground and to continue working as an agriculturalist. Pretending to be a Christian and visiting the church to avoid suspicion. Underground activities mainly at nighttime: sabotage in trains and transmission of documents. Sole Jew in Belgian group. After English and American invasion beginning training for overt war against the Germans. Group helping to captivate German soldiers hiding in the woods and delivering them to the American Army. Belgian undergrouns cells dismantled at that period and activists joining the army. Not drafted since not a Belgian citizen. Representative of the Dutch refugees coming from England to organize their army towards Netherlands coming liberation. His family being of Dutch citizenship drafted to that army, to regiments in Indonesia. Appointed welfare officer and as such ; organized religious life of Jewish soldiers and Jewish refugees (kosher food, cirumcision). On his release received certificate and immigrated to Israel.
