Born in Vienna to Orthodox Family. Studied at Leeds University, 1937-40. Discusses exposure to Zionist ideology and involvement in Hechalutzim in Vienna and England. Details struggle in Habonim movement surrounding issue of 'Chalutziut' - those who believed they must make Aliyah and those who preferred to be a 'light' to Jewish youth regardless of location. Discusses: friction between Communists and Zionists; eventual diminishment of movement in England.
