Discusses: family; father's role as secretary for Paraguayan Jewish community; finishing high school, 1939; serving in army, 1940-41; impact of uprisings, 1936-1939, and White Paper; beginning of own Zionist involvement; motivation amongst Gentiles (especially intellectuals) to take active role to help Jews; pro-German anti-Semitic organization; beginning of involvement with 'Hanoar Hatzioni'; ties to government officials; UN vote; decision to make Aliyah; Aliyah, 1949.
