ארכיון רשות העתיקות

הבריטים החלו באיסוף ותיעוד אתרים ארכיאולוגיים מיד עם הכיבוש הבריטי של ארץ-ישראל בידי אלנבי בשנת 1918. בשנת 1920 עם הקמת ממשלת המנדט האזרחית נוסדה גם מחלקת עתיקות שכללה ארכיון. בשנת 1948 הוקם ארכיון מחלקת העתיקות הישראלית שלימים הפך לאגף העתיקות ומוזיאונים. ארכיון זה מקיף את האזורים שממערב לנהר הירדן בגבולות ארץ-ישראל המנדטורית. קיים גם חומר על אתרים בירדן, בסוריה, בתורכיה, במצרים, בסיני, בעיראק, בקפריסין ובאירן. החומר הארכיוני מימי השלטון הירדני (1948 – 1967) נכלל גם הוא בתיקים אלה. ארכיון החפירות והעבודות של מחלקת העתיקות בימי המנדט הבריטי נחלק לשני סוגים: 'תיקים מדעיים' המתויקים בסדר אלפביתי, לפי שמות האתרים באנגלית ו- 'תיקים מנהליים' השמורים בחדר הגניזה.‪
