הארכיון לתולדות פתח תקוה ע"ש עודד ירקוני שומר את אוצרות המורשת ההיסטורית של העיר. חומרי הארכיון עומדים לשימוש עיריית פתח תקוה, חוקרי אקדמיה, אדריכלים, סופרים, תחקירנים, חוקרי שורשים וקהל רחב. הוא כולל ארכיון העיר פתח תקוה מיסוד המושבה ועד היום, ארכיונים פרטיים של מוסדות וארגונים הקשורים לעיר, ארכיונים אישיים של בני פתח תקוה, אוספי תצלומים, מפות, מודעות וכרזות, חפצים, סרטים, תיעוד בעל פה, קטעי עיתונות ועוד. הארכיון מתפקד כ"ארכיון כוללני" ואוסף בדרך יזומה את החומר הארכיוני בעל ערך היסטורי-חברתי-תרבותי לעיר ולתושביה. הארכיון משמש גם כארכיון מוזאון ראשונים לתולדות פתח תקוה ומציג בו תערוכות קבע ותערוכות מתחלפות.
